Services » Sedation For Nervous
Some patients are so frightened of the dentist that they will not go for dental treatment. They can overcome their fears with relaxation and sedation.
With sedation, you become drowsy and unaware of any treatment, but you are still able to co-operate with the dentist. You remain conscious all the time, although you may be a little drowsy, and any treatment given causes you no discomfort.
The effects of sedative medicine take some time to wear off and your dentist will tell you how long the drugs will take to clear from your body. You won’t be able to drink alcohol, drive or work machinery during this time.
Call us today to discuss sedation and our short course to help handle dental anxiety "Overcoming the Fear of Dental Treatment".
How the Course Works at Our Reading Dental Practice
The course consists of four short weekly sessions that end with an actual dental appointment. The sessions will help you understand why you feel anxious about going to the dentist. Dental anxiety is associated with a tendency to experience thoughts centered around harm or danger.
You will be able to express your fears and concerns during the course, and receive feedback from our professional counselors to enable you to move forward positively.
You will also learn methods of coping with anxiety such as relaxation techniques. You will rehearse sitting in a dentist's chair to prepare you for a real dental appointment, which is the last session in the course.
The course is run by two experienced counselors, Janet Penny and Chris Ledger.
Our Trained Counselors Are Ready to Help
Janet Penny and Chris Ledger run The London Counseling and Psychology Service at the Brookside Surgery and have extensive experience in helping people cope with difficulties.
Janet is a chartered psychologist who has been working in the NHS for more than three years. Chris is a registered counselor and has worked in the NHS for 16 years. Janet and Chris can help you understand what anxiety actually is and then overcome it.
If you experience anxiety before coming to see the dentist, this course is ideal for you.
